There were 13.1 million working-age adults in poverty in 2020 that did not work during the year.  The chart below shows their reason for not working (Census Bureau). “Could not find work” is only 7% of the cause. Therefore, it isn’t a lack of jobs or poor-paying jobs that explains poverty.
